"Our News, Your Progress"

Dear Community Members,

It is well known that Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that Colaba Constituency is the capital of Mumbai.

Colaba is a part of South Mumbai. In the sixteenth century, the Portuguese called this area Kandil, and in the seventeenth century, the British named it Colaba. The word Colaba is derived from the Koli language word 'Kolbhat'. The Kolis are the original inhabitants who have been living here since before the arrival of the Portuguese. The present Colaba was formerly divided into two sections: Colaba and Dhakta Colaba. Colaba is one of the seven islands of Mumbai, which was ruled by the Portuguese.

This is indeed the number one economic powerhouse not just in South Mumbai, but on the map of Maharashtra itself. This area houses the famous financial center offices in Nariman Point, Mantralaya (Secretariat), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Bombay Port Trust, BEST, Public Works Department, Old Custom House, Maharashtra Police Headquarters, Gateway of India, Reserve Bank, most nationalized banks, private bank headquarters, Navy Nagar, Stock Exchange, Sassoon Dock, Lohar Chawl, Fashion Street, Crawford Market, Kalbadevi, textile market, jewelry market - all major centers of economic activity.

Here we have Mumbai University, LIC, MPSC, Staff Selection Commission, renowned colleges, renowned schools and educational institutions. From small shops to street vendors to five-star hotels like Taj and Oberoi, businesses of all kinds exist in this division.

Most importantly, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Churchgate Railway Stations, where millions of people alight daily, are here. Additionally, the High Court, the main seat of law, is also located here.

Similarly, for health facilities, there are government hospitals like Cama, GT, and St. George. Moreover, from Ratan Tata to many veteran industrialists reside in this area, and most importantly, approximately 8 to 10 large slum areas of various communities can also be found here.

Therefore, in this Colaba of all religions, rich and poor, fundamental issues like water, sewerage, health, slum eradication, education, employment, and law, etc. are standing challenges.

Since there are leaders of all parties in this division, there are delays in getting people's work done, and as a result, the same problems have been persisting for many years.

I, Anil Ramchandra Fondekar, being a resident of this constituency, will soon be launching "The Colaba News 24" digital web channel as a medium between the residents, traders, and government machinery.

As you know, the whole world has been shaken by the Corona pandemic, and now the local people themselves must give each other courage like family members and fight it. That's why, with the motto "Our News, and Your Progress," we pledge to solve your difficulties through proper legal channels, becoming a member of every household in Colaba.

I hope that when this website channel is launched, you will give it your wholehearted support and take our cooperation in solving the problems around you.

Thank You
