Health risk vs saving lives: Dadar pigeon coop controversy
Considering the increasing health risks posed by the pigeon house in Dadar, the government ordered the BMC to take action in November 2025. On December 1, 2025, the BMC started the process of closing the pigeon house. However, on December 3, strong opposition was registered against the ban in the Dharma Sabha of Jain Muni Nileshji and the formation of the ‘Jan Kalyan Party’ was also announced. On December 4, the Jain community warned of agitation, while the BMC went into action mode. A meeting was held with the Chief Minister on December 5, but differences persisted. Finally, a peaceful march of the Jain community will be held on December 7, 2025, and the demand for the restoration of the pigeon house will be raised in that march. This controversy shows the struggle to maintain a balance between the health risk and the ‘jeev daya’ role of the Jain community.
